Malawians celebrates 60 Years of independence with a call for Unity, resilience.

President Lazarus Chakwera today is leading the Malawi nation in celebrating the country’s 60 years of independence.

The Commemorations are being conducted at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in the country’s capital Lilongwe.

This year’s Independence Day is being celebrated with the National Service of prayers with leaders from various religions leading the service.

Among others, prayers are being conducted in remembering the country’s vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima who together with 8 other Malawians perished in a plane crash, an accident that occurred on 10th June 2024 in Chikangawa forest in Mzimba district, northern Malawi.

Malawi become independent in the year 1964 from the British government.
