Recent studies reveal the critical role of experiential learning in technical education with UNESCO reporting that students who engage in industry-based learning are more likely to secure employment[1]. Moreover, companies that host student interns or trainees have increased recruitment efficiency and faster onboarding times[2].

It is against this backdrop that LG Electronics (LG) East Africa has today welcomed a delegation of students from the LG-KOICA Hope TVET College in Ethiopia for a four-day immersive educational tour of its regional subsidiary in Nairobi.

The visit reflects LG’s broader objective to advancing technical education and empowering youth across the continent through practical exposure.

The initiative is part of a growing partnership between LG and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) aimed at strengthening vocational education in East Africa. The LG-KOICA Hope TVET College was established in 2021 in Addis Ababa to provide cutting-edge training in electronics, IT, and customer service, sectors that are rapidly transforming African economies.

““This visit is designed to give students a hands-on experience and help them grow as professionals. We are confident that their tour of our facilities in Nairobi and their interactions with our teams will offer differentiated practical education and field experience opportunities unique to LG,” said LG East Africa President, Mr. Donghun Lee.

During their stay, the eight students will engage with LG’s marketing, product management, and customer service departments. They will also tour LG’s distributor showrooms, authorised service centers and warehouses, where they will gain insights into every aspect of running a market-leading electronics enterprise.

“Learning by doing is the best way to understand business … we hope our visitors will leave with greater clarity about their career paths and the confidence to innovate in their future roles,” said Mr.Lee.

This visit is a continuation of LG’s ongoing investment in sustainable skills development in Africa. In addition to supporting TVET programs, LG has also been involved in setting up labs in schools, sponsoring scholarships, and running job placement programs in collaboration with local partners.
