South C Member of County Assembly (MCA) Abass Khalif stunned President William Ruto as he informed the head of state of his newest nickname, El-Chapo, during the President’s tour of Langata constituency.
Abass urged President Ruto not to be bothered by the various nicknames assigned to him by Kenyans telling him that the numerous nicknames are as a result of the love Kenyan youth have for him.
The President had questioned why Kenyans have been nicknaming him mentioning the names, hustler, survivor, Zakayo and Kasongo before Abass informed Ruto that he is now El-Chapo, arising from his promise to add the chapter delicacy into the menu of the Nairobi County Dishi na County program.
On Thursday, March 13, the president cheekily expressed his displeasure with the various nicknames. Ruto lightly joked that since winning the 2022 General Election, Kenyans have overwhelmed him with new names. The president recounted Kenyans initially branding him a hustler, then a survivor, later Zakayo, and finally Kasongo.
“I want to ask you people of Nairobi. Aren’t you going to kill me with new names? You started by giving me the name Hustler, then you called me Survivor. Then you guys gave me the name Zakayo now I hear you are calling me Kasongo. Are you guys going to add me more names or you’re done? Mko na maneno. Now how many names do you want me to have? Do you want me to have 10 names?” Ruto posed.
Abass was quick to couragiously encourage the President that this was not in bad light but out of love that the country has for the head of state.
“Rais, Hawa wakenya wanakupenda sana ndio sababu wanakuita majina. Sasa unaitwa El Chapo na wanataka uendelee kuchapa kazi,” (President, Kenyans love you so much and that is why they are calling you many names. You are now called El-Chapo and they want you to keep working for them) Abass said.
