It was a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere as Bang Bet, a gaming company, announced its sponsorship of two rally drivers, Gerald Maina and John Ngugi, in the upcoming World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally. The event is scheduled to take place in Nakuru County from June 22nd to June 25th, 2023.
Bang Bet CEO Leonardo Varese highlighted their main objective of tapping into and nurturing local talent within the rally field. Recognizing the high costs associated with the sport, Varese explained that they were seeking individuals who possessed the hunger and drive for driving but might lack the necessary resources. Gerald Maina and John Ngugi were deemed as the perfect candidates for their sponsorship program.
Navigator John Ngugi expressed his gratitude to the online betting company, expressing his optimism for a successful performance when the WRC Safari Rally resumes the following week. Ngugi acknowledged the financial challenges of motorsport and conveyed his appreciation for Bang Bet entrusting them with their brand. He expressed their determination to prove themselves worthy of the opportunity.
Ngugi has made an upgrade from a Mitsubishi Evo 9 to a Subaru Impreza N16, previously owned by Don Smith, with the goal of surpassing last year’s 5th place finish. Meanwhile, Gerald Maina will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo 9 and participating in the Safari Rally for the first time since its reintroduction to the WRC calendar.
Maina expressed his excitement about Bang Bet’s sponsorship, noting how their support had revitalized their preparations. He shared that prior to the sponsorship, they had little hope of securing financial backing, making Bang Bet’s involvement a source of great joy for their team.
The upcoming WRC Safari Rally marks the 70th edition of the World Rally Championship, and Bang Bet’s sponsorship of Gerald Maina and John Ngugi demonstrates their commitment to supporting and promoting local talent in the demanding sport of rally driving.
