The victorious Nairobi United Football Club returned home, Tuesday October 28, 2025 to a rapturous welcome following their historic triumph over Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Nairobi United landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and were welcomed by the club patron Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

The Kenyan representatives at the continental stage eliminated Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary stage beating them 7-6 on penalties following a 2-2 score and a 4-4 aggregate score in the two leg qualifier that saw them book a place in the group stages.

Speaking, Coach Nicholas Muyoti said that the players were ready for the challenge and they knew it was an uphill task but they remained focused into emerging victorious.

“We knew were going to face tough competition and the stadium was very tense and hostile but we kept playing on and we believed in ourselves. Moving on to the group stages, we will not play under pressure so we are happy we are at this stage and we shall keep on sharpening ourselves to represent Kenya the best way possible. The boys realize that we are the sole representative of the country and we shall carry the national flag with pride and dignity,” Muyoti said.

Nairobi United captain Brian Omondi noted that going into the match, the players expected their opponents to have their home advantage and a large crowd but they remained focused to emerge victorious.

On his part, Governor Sakaja praised the teams resilience and emphasized the need for the team to remain focused as they carry the hopes and aspirations of the whole country at the continental level.

“You have made me very proud. A team that just recently was in the lower division is now at the top of the continent with the other football big boys. For this, you have made us really proud and I want to assure you of my continued support,” Sakaja said.

Nairobi United is supported by the Sakaja Johnson Foundation and has, since it was acquired by the Nairobi Governor made a sharp improvement, winning last seasons National Super League title with three games at hand as well as beating top teams to win the FKF Cup. With these famous double wins, Nairobi United were promoted to the top tier FKF Premier League as well as booking a ticket to the CAF Confederations Cup.

With the whole nation rallying behind them, Nairobi United now turn their attention to the group stage — ready to write a new chapter in Kenya’s football story ahead of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup group stage draw, which will be conducted on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
