Nairobi West MCA Rex Omole has raised alarm over alleged cartels eyeing public spaces within the ward, warning that the menace poses a serious threat to residents and community development.
Speaking after concerns emerged regarding encroachment attempts around key public areas, Omole decried the growing influence of shadowy groups who he said are determined to grab spaces meant for the public good.
“These cartels must be stopped before they completely erode the spirit of fairness and accountability in our city. Public land and spaces are not for private profiteering; they belong to the people of Nairobi,” Omole stated.
He urged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to urgently intervene and ensure that enforcement teams move swiftly to protect the land from illegal takeovers. According to Omole, Sakaja’s administration has the tools and mandate to dismantle such cartel networks that have historically frustrated development projects.
The MCA emphasized that safeguarding public spaces is not only about protecting land but also about preserving Nairobi’s future as a livable, orderly city. He assured residents of Nairobi West of his commitment to stand firm against those seeking to exploit community resources for selfish gain.
“As leaders, we must remain vigilant. I am calling upon the Governor and all relevant county agencies to act without hesitation. Nairobians deserve a city where order, transparency, and justice prevail,” he added.
The remarks come at a time when questions of land use, approvals, and private interests continue to spark debates in the city, with calls for stricter enforcement to protect public resources from falling into the hands of powerful cartels.
