President Ruto, Governor Sakaja celebrate Nairobi United triumphant season at State House

President  William Samoei Ruto has today lauded the Nairobi United Football Club following the teams fairy tale triumphant  season which saw the team claim an unprecedented  National Super League and Mozzartbet cup double. 

President Ruto hosted the newly promoted Football Kenya Federation  Premier League club club at State House in Nairobi  today taking  time to congratulate the team, popularly Naibois,  after the team overcame 21 time Premier League champions Gor Mahia in the Mozzartbet cup final to claim a chance to represent  Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking to the champions,  the President noted that the youth are Kenya’s greatest resource and the Kenyan government will keep supporting  talent development to spiral economic development among the youth noting that Nairobi United had epitomized the true spirit of youth resilience in the pursuit for achieving great heights. 

“Young people are our country’s greatest resource. That is why we are intentionally putting more resources in the education and training of our youth to build and productively exploit their talents to drive our economic growth,” President Ruto said.

“Today, I met with Nairobi United Football Club, the 2025 winners of the Mozzart Bet Cup at State House and congratulated them on winning the Mozzartbet cup  and National Super League title,” the President continued. 

Nairobi United FC was coronated as the National Super League 2024/2025 champions before clinching the Mozzartbet cup title, following a fairy tale season that not only saw the team’s transformation into the best organized NSL team in Kenya but as well, bagged a life defining ownership dream when the team was adopted by the Sakaja Johnson Foundation at the beginning of the he 2024/2025 season.

The team’s NSL glory has been capped with a chance to play in the CAF Confederation cup becoming the first NSL team ever to play at the continental level. 

On his part, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja congratulated Naibois on their triumphant season emotionally  thanking the boys for ‘not letting his trust in them down’.

“We made a decision that we are going to walk the journey with this team and made a commitment that they will get the best support  out of us as much as possible.  I thank you because  you  proved that indeed we made the right decision.  Thank you for not letting me down. We actually  looked at promotion to the Premier League  but you gave even more winning the Mozzartbet cup and now you will be representing Kenya in Africa. I am very proud of this team,” Governor Sakaja said.

The team was hosted to State House by President Ruto and was accompanied by Governor Sakaja  and key team officials  among them the Governor’s aide Osman Khalif, head coach Nicholas Muyoti among other key dignitaries.

En route to their league triumph, Nairobi United secured an unassailable lead in the league winning the title with three matches left before the coronation day, and earned an automatic promotion to the top tier Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The club, originally founded in 2015 as 360 FC playing in the Nairobi West league before scaling the heights to the National Super League where it was promoted in 2022 and renamed Nairobi United FC. A major turning point came in September 2024 when Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, through the Sakaja Foundation, acquired the team and promised to invest in youth development, infrastructure, and recruitment
