Questions are arising as one of the candidates in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential elections continues to enjoy support from questionable individuals whose intentions in football are not known.
Many football stakeholders are now asking hard questions as it has emerged that a section of mostly Somali natives, some not even legal citizens of Kenya have taken to funding one candidate for the FKF presidential race.
“We are wondering, what is the interest of these people funding his campaigns because it cannot be just blanket support. Again, why just a particular ethnicity while the football ecosystem is very diverse across the entire country?” wondered a county branch official from Nairobi.
“I come from Nairobi and I am thinking aloud, this candidate has the support of one community. The people around him are just Somali, from the bodyguard to a
the personal assistant, driver and other staff. What is it that they expect from him if he wins?” He posed
“Most of the support base this Somali project enjoys has been attributed to interests in tenders and human trafficking that he has reportedly promised to his funders.
“We are worried this particular individual who organizes tournaments for the sake of elections have very questionable businessmen supporting him and we understand they are planning to use the national teams to do human trafficking. They have been promised transport logistics for the national teams where they will be able to take immigrants in and out of the country. They also want big supply tenders and this is high level corruption,” a section of stakeholders said.
A majority of football stakeholders have raised a red flag over this support noting that most of the businessmen of Somali origin are not even legal Kenyan citizens.
