Seasoned political commentator Prof. Herman Manyora has advised President William Ruto and ODM chief Raila Odinga to consider appointing Lucy Mworia, a 2022 Isiolo North parliamentary aspirant in the position of Principal Secretary in the impending reorganization of state departments.
Appearing in an interview, Prof. Manyora said that Mworia is proactive, she believes in a course and can fight for something making her an ideal candidate for the appointment.
“I know Lucy Mworia. She is proactive. People like her should be appointed not because of gender or coming from a particular area but because they are the right candidates. She can fight for something, she believes in a course. What I hate is the idea of giving women positions because they are women. I should be by merit,” Manyora said.
“I think she should be appointed because she is capable of and has demonstrated her ability and dedication,” he added.
A section of leaders drawn from Isiolo county and the Upper Eastern region recently urged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to propose to President William Ruto the appointment of a person from the region in the upcoming appointments of Principal Secretaries in the newly crafted broad-based government proposing Lucy Mworia for the appointment.
In their appeal to Odinga, the leaders said that Mworia, a former Miss President contestant has avidly stood by the Opposition leader and it would be an honor to the people of Isiolo and Upper Eastern if she was appointed.
President William Ruto is expected to fire at least 15 principal secretaries (PSs) as he consolidates some of the State Departments within various ministries.
The development, which follows the appointment of new cabinet secretaries, will allow President Ruto to appoint a significant number of new PSs, reshuffle existing ones, and send others home as he trims down his government and restructures his Cabinet.
